RESMAN's Breakthrough Technologies In 2024

2024 was a highly successful year for RESMAN Energy Technology in terms of technological development. We enhanced our technology offerings, consolidated our portfolios, and completed several successful commercial pilots, positioning us for a robust innovation pipeline and upcoming field trials.

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS BY RESMAN IN 2024

2024 marked a year of groundbreaking advancements for RESMAN Energy Technology, with the introduction of innovative solutions in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), production tracers, carbon storage, and geothermal energy. Key highlights include the launch of new technologies such as the RESMAN® DeepSat™ and RESMAN® NearSat™ tracers, as well as pioneering CO2 storage techniques. Our digital client portal, RESTRACK, has also revolutionized data management, providing enhanced transparency and real-time insights into reservoir performance.

RESMAN RESERVOIR

In 2024, we launched our new EOR portfolio

As global energy demands grow, optimizing oil recovery from aging reservoirs is increasingly vital. With offshore production challenges intensifying, there is a need for more efficient, cost-effective solutions. Tracer technology has emerged as a key innovation, delivering precision and cost-efficiency to enhance Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) practices.

To meet the growing demand for advanced EOR solutions, we launched our EOR portfolio, introducing next-generation Residual Oil Saturation measurements to the industry:

  • RESMAN® DeepSat™, Partitioning Inter-well Tracer Test for measuring oil saturation between wells;
  • RESMAN® NearSat™, RESMAN® NearSat™ Plus and RESMAN® NearSat™ Max, Single Well Chemical Tracer Test for measuring oil saturation in a single well with up to 10 meters depth of investigation.

Our tracers take EOR to the next level by precisely evaluating residual oil, sweep efficiency, and overall EOR performance. This approach maximizes field recovery while minimizing costs and environmental impact.

At ADIPEC 2024, we presented results from a successful trial with  ADNOC, (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), in a paper titled “Successful Low Salinity Single-Well Pilot and SWCTT Operations in a High Temperature/High Salinity Carbonate Reservoir of the UAE. SWCTT Operations, Numerical Interpretation, and Integration with Well Logging” (SPE-222311-MS). We presented the results of a successful low-salinity water injection (LSWI) pilot in Abu Dhabi’s high-temperature, high-salinity carbonate reservoirs.

We demonstrated how tracer integration in EOR enhances recovery can provide insights into oil saturation, relative permeability, and sweep efficiency, reducing uncertainties and improving predictions. The pilot confirmed the potential of LSWI to reduce residual oil saturation, highlighting the prospects of this innovative EOR technique.

RESMAN PRODUCTION

In 2024, we started unveiling a series of tracer technological advancements in the production domain.

Drilling new oil wells is increasingly challenging due to environmental concerns and a tough investment climate, yet new discoveries and wells in existing fields continue to emerge. To maximize recovery, there is a growing focus on Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) techniques, applied to both new and mature wells, especially during the early stages or primary recovery phases. IOR optimizes initial production and enhances overall recovery.

RESMAN’s production tracers enable Measurement While Producing (MWP™), allowing for accurate tracking of production from the reservoir to the wellhead without the need for a well shut-in. Although production tracers have been underutilized in recent years, they are poised for a resurgence in today’s evolving energy landscape.

In 2024, we enhanced our gas tracer offerings, including Inflow Gas Tracers (ResGas™) and MWP™ workflows for cemented liners, further solidifying our leadership in production monitoring. One of the standout advantages of ResGas™ tracer systems is their ability to deliver timely and precise insights into gas flow dynamics. ResGas™ provides continuous, real-time tracking throughout the production lifecycle, unlike earlier-stage inflow measurement techniques.

We successfully deployed ResGas™ in exploration wells, marking a key milestone in linking R&D innovations to real-world production challenges. To date, we’ve tested 20-30 systems, with a particularly promising project currently underway in the Middle East, which has the potential to significantly impact regional reservoir recovery. We are currently the only provider offering inflow solutions that integrate all three phases—gas, liquid, and solid—into a single solution.

RESMAN NEW ENERGY

CARBON STORAGE

In 2024, we continued to enhance our Carbon Capture tracer technology. In the paper titled “Chemical Tracer for Soil CCS Monitoring Application: Monitoring CO2 Storage in Saline Aquifers Using Advanced Chemical Tracer and Detection Technology” (SPE-222348-MS), we shared the results of the groundbreaking project with ADNOC, highlighting the use of advanced chemical tracers for monitoring CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers.

The project utilizes advanced chemical tracer technology to monitor CO2 injected into deep saline aquifers, enabling precise leak detection and source identification. This innovation improves the precision and effectiveness of CO2 detection, ensuring the secure and long-term storage of carbon dioxide in alignment with global climate goals.

RESMAN’s tracers are designed to function reliably for decades under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, offering unmatched sensitivity and stability for long-term CO2 monitoring. Our pioneering solution, now enhanced to detect parts per quadrillion (ppq) levels, compared to previous levels of parts per trillion (ppt), significantly improves the safety, efficiency, and performance of carbon capture projects.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

2024 marks our first geothermal project at Utah FORGE. Our successful completion of the initial tracer testing stage at Utah FORGE represents a significant milestone in optimizing geothermal energy solutions. Our tracers have addressed a common issue in geothermal projects—unreliable results due to inconsistent tracer techniques. Our rigorous testing has set new benchmarks for accuracy, reliability, and the broader adoption of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technologies.

At the Utah FORGE project, our advanced tracer technology was put to the test with a two-phase sampling process, which included 14 days of flowback sampling and a 10-hour circulation test. We validated 24 unique, inert, non-hazardous chemical tracers, stable up to 465°F (240°C). Our Measurement While Producing (MWP) method provided real-time production data with minimal intervention, delivering precise tracer testing results that significantly advance the geothermal energy sector.

RESTRACK DIGITAL CLIENT PORTAL

We launched RESMAN’s digital client portal, revolutionizing how reservoir performance is monitored and managed. The portal provides real-time, 24/7 access to subsurface data, enabling sharper detection and clearer insights, crucial for decision-making. With a focus on security, user experience, and operational efficiency, the RESTRACK portal offers enhanced transparency, comprehensive analytics, and tailored reports. It empowers teams by providing advanced visualization of tracer data, making it easier to track connections, significance, and sweep efficiency. Hosted on Microsoft Azure, the portal ensures secure, reliable access from anywhere in the world, with user-friendly dashboards designed to simplify complex processes and enhance operational efficiency.

The RESTRACK portal streamlines data management and automates advanced calculations, offering predictive analytics and saving engineers valuable time. It provides in-depth reservoir understanding, visualizing fluid dynamics and helping teams make strategic decisions. The portal supports collaboration among stakeholders with multi-user access and integrated communication features. It allows the integration of 4D seismic and tracer data, crucial for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects. The portal transforms complex data into actionable insights, improving reservoir management and optimizing operational outcomes.

Stay tuned for more technological innovations in 2025!
